The Five of Swords is the win that costs the war — conflict pressed past the point of profit, victory with an empty battlefield for a prize. Upright, it asks whether being right is worth what it is buying, and whose swords you are collecting. Some fights are best conceded while you still have people to walk away with.
♺ Reversed
Reversed, the aftermath asks for repair: apologies, fences mended, an old grievance finally released — or a lingering resentment that keeps refighting a settled battle. Lay the collected swords down; they were never trophies.
