King of Swords

A stern king faces directly out from a throne carved with butterflies and crescents, sword upright but tilted slightly, two birds circling high in the blue behind him. His gaze does not waver.

★ Upright

The King of Swords is judgment matured into authority — the strategist, the fair arbiter, the mind that rules feelings without pretending not to have them. Upright, he favors logic, professional counsel, and decisions delivered with clean reasoning. He often represents an expert worth consulting, or the summons to be the calmest thinker in the room.

♺ Reversed

Reversed, intellect turns tyrant: cold rulings, manipulation by technicality, cleverness serving power instead of truth. It can also mark authority avoided — the qualified person refusing the gavel. The tilted sword is the tell: even this king must lean toward mercy or the verdicts stop being just.
