King of Cups
A king sits on a stone throne that floats amid a choppy sea, holding a cup and a lotus scepter. A fish leaps from the waves on one side and a ship rides the swell on the other — he alone is unmoved.
★ Upright
The King of Cups is mastery of the emotional weather — calm in crisis, diplomatic, generous without being naive. Upright, he counsels responding to turbulence with composure and heart together: feel the storm fully and steer anyway. He often represents a wise counselor or the maturity a situation demands of you.
♺ Reversed
Reversed, the composure is a dam: feelings suppressed until they leak as coldness, passive aggression, or sudden squalls. It can also mark emotional manipulation from someone who seems perfectly calm. The throne floats on the sea, not above it — honesty about feeling is the actual mastery.
